Why do we Celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi Every Year?

Every year, we celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi, the 10-day-long festival. But do you know what Ganesh Chaturthi is and why it is celebrated?

This is a festival of Hindus celebrated to honour and respect Lord Ganesha's birthday. Ganesha is the younger son of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati. This 10 days long festival falls or begins on every Chaturthi of Sukla Paksha of Bhadra month every year.

Ganesha is the Lord of arts and sciences and is known by 108 different names. He is the Devta of wisdom and knowledge. As he's considered the God of beginnings, he’s respected at the start of rituals and ceremonies. He's widely and fondly referred to as Ganapati or Vinayaka.

According to the other legend, Ganesha was created by Shiva and Parvati on request of the Devas. They wanted him to be a Vighnakartaa (obstacle-creator) in the path of Rakshasas (demonic beings), and a Vighnahartaa (obstacle-averter) to help the Devas.

This year, 2nd September marks the commencement of this festival which is also called as Vinayaka Chaturthi. So welcome Bappa with celebrations and Puja with Easypuja.
